NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind Mortal Kombat 1, has finally unveiled plans for the introduction of crossplay to the popular fighting game. The reveal came during the December 13 Kombat Kast livestream, where developers confirmed that the Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay Update release in February 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.

Mortal Kombat 1, the 12th mainline installment in the renowned series, underwent a soft reboot, picking up after the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and its Aftermath DLC. Despite launching on September 19 with an array of single-player and multiplayer modes, crossplay was notably absent at the time.

Game director Ed Boon had teased the impending Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay Update release in November, engaging the Mortal Kombat community in a Twitter poll to gauge their interest in various online features. Notably, crossplay emerged as the frontrunner by a significant margin, fueling anticipation among fans.

During the Kombat Kast, developers disclosed that the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 would not support crossplay. While technical limitations were cited as a probable reason for this exclusion, the announcement disappointed some Switch users.

In addition to Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay Update release, NetherRealm Studios is set to introduce a Wi-Fi filter in an upcoming update for Mortal Kombat 1. This filter will empower players to customize their online experience by adjusting match settings based on their opponents’ internet connection quality, helping mitigate issues like lag and disconnects.

The developers assured players that detailed patch notes for Mortal Kombat 1’s latest update would be released soon. These notes are expected to outline a range of balance changes, game adjustments, and bug fixes. Furthermore, the update will bring various gameplay tweaks to specific fighters, including Kano and Sonya Blade with Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay Update release.

The highly anticipated debut of Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat 1 is set for December 14 for Kombat Pack owners, with a wider release for all players on December 21. The impending update is likely to coincide with Quan Chi’s release and is eagerly awaited by the Mortal Kombat community.
