Baldur’s Gate 3’s Stellar Launch Marred by Uncredited Translators Controversy
Baldur’s Gate 3, the highly anticipated RPG developed by Larian Studios, has achieved remarkable success since its release in 2023, surpassing even the loftiest expectations of its creators.
Garnering a spot in Steam’s top ten highest concurrently played games of all time, the title’s expansive content and unparalleled freedom of choice have enraptured players worldwide. However, amidst this triumph, a controversy surrounding uncredited Baldur’s Gate 3 Translators has cast a shadow over the celebration.
Outrage Over Missing Credits
The fervent community of Baldur’s Gate 3 was left astir when it was revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 Translators responsible for localizing the game were omitted from the credits, igniting a wave of outrage across various social media platforms.
This revelation struck a dissonant chord with players, given the laborious efforts that undoubtedly contributed to the game’s immersive experience. The controversy sent shockwaves through the gaming community and prompted a swift response from both the disgruntled fans and the game’s developers.
The Depth of Translator Contributions
An employee from the Spanish localization team, credited for their work on Baldur’s Gate 3, shed light on the significant role that Altagram’s Baldur’s Gate 3 Translators played in the game’s development.
According to them, the localization process extended over nearly four years, resulting in a staggering 2.5 million words of translated content. Regrettably, all translators were duly credited except those from Altagram, leaving a poignant mark on the game’s otherwise acclaimed achievement.
Larian Studios Addresses the Issue
Speaking exclusively to Eurogamer, a representative from Larian Studios issued a statement explaining that the omission was not a decision made by the developer but rather the responsibility of the localization firm Altagram.
The spokesperson clarified that upon learning of the situation, Larian promptly intervened, urging Altagram to rectify the oversight. In their efforts to make amends, Larian requested a comprehensive list of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Translators from Altagram to ensure their proper inclusion in the game’s credits.
